March 2003
Scott took this picture out of his bedroom window a month
or so ago. Black Mountain stands 1,557 feet above sea level; 960 above
and a mile or two away from our house. We've walked up it a few times,
but not lately. The view stretches for miles from the ocean to the mountains
in the east, north of Los Angeles, and south into Mexico. Most obvious
from the summit is the rampant development in San Diego's North County
regions: an inevitable result of population growth in and migration toward
America's Finest City.
