One of my favorite events of the year is the Spring Fling
disc golf tournment, now called the "San Diego Open," at Morley
Field, which is part of San Diego's Balboa Park. Scott and I signed up
as soon as possible, back in February. The course is completely redesigned
for the 2-day tournament, with some of the regular holes lengthened and
combined, and six extra holes added in nearby sections of the park.
This past weekend, I ended up placing 19th out of 40
competitors in my division (intermediate amateurs), with a score of 274.
That's 49 over par for 75 holes. I felt quite good about my score, having
not played since February; approach shots and putts were quite satisfying,
overall. The winning pro finished one stroke under par. Unfortunately,
Scott had a conflict with basketball and couldn't play this year. He had
done quite well in the junior division in past Spring Flings.
