The contrasts in Hermosa Beach are typical of the Los Angeles Basin, with the beauty of the land, sea, and mountains juxtaposed with the power of industry. Hermosa Beach is a lovely, wide beach. The smokestacks of power plants and oil companies stand quietly in the background, far enough away that most beachgoers don't even notice them.
