February 2004
Today begins another semester of chemistry classes. I've
got three classes again. Monday and Wednesday lecturing at Miramar, Wednesday
night lab at Miramar, and Saturday morning lab at Mesa. It's all in the
same community college district, but they are three distinct classes with
different students in each, except that about 2/3 of my Miramar students
are in both classes. This is a scene from the lab at Mesa, which is older
and slightly nicer, due to its chalkboards instead of whiteboards and
its lower capacity for students: 24 to 33. Smaller classes really enhance
the teaching and learning environment. Too bad our president doesn't know
that. He's cutting programs that enable smaller classes in public school
programs. Ugh.
