March 2004
I think I'll use this as a placeholder for a better photo
to be added later on. This is a sign that I see on my way home, amidst all
the development in the Carmel Valley. This used to be farmlands and coastal
sage habitat, with rolling hills, a few trees, and shrub-filled valleys.
Now it's been completely flattened by earthmovers and graders, is being
paved over and will soon become a new suburb connecting the 10 miles between
Del Mar and Rancho Peñasquitos. The sign says, "Another Habitat
Restoration Project by Pardee Homes." I haven't quite figured out what
that means yet. Maybe I'll keep this photograph after all.
