I thought we'd have another day to walk around New Orleans later in the week, so I put off having a chickory-doped coffee and beignees at Cafe du Monde, buying souvenirs for the kids, and taking in the French Quarter. This walk down Bourbon Street was the only time I spent being a tourist. We drove off to Baton Rouge the next day and never returned, having been forced out of the state by Hurricane Ivan on Wednesday morning.
