No amount of praying by the Padres mascot, the Friar,
could overcome Todd Helton's grand slam home run in the 5th inning.
This 8th inning rally only resulted in one run and fell short. Fortunately,
all of the other teams in the NL West are doing far worse than the
Padres and we're still in first place by a few games.
This is the second game in a row that we've attended
in which the Padres have allowed the bases to become loaded for the
opposing team's best hitter. Last month, the kids and I were commenting
how it was such a shame that Adam Dunn was coming up for the Reds with
three runners on base, just before he hit one out. Tonight we were
remembering that game, and saying how awful it was that now Helton
had an opportunity, when Helton hit it into the Western Metals building
just to the left of us.
