Walking around downtown today, I snapped this photo of the statue near the front door of the County Administration Building. Local artist, Donal Hord, took two years to hone a block of granite from a Lakeside, CA, quarry into a pioneer woman holding a jug of water, one of San Diego's most important resources. "Guardian of Water" was dedicated on June 10, 1939. A replica was completed in 1960 and sent to Yokohama, Japan as a gift from the San Diego-Yokohama Friendship Commission.
