Gerald R. Ford, 1913-2006. He was a good president. I think of him as the last Republican who understood decency, honor, and family values. Ford was pro-choice, supported limited gun control and gay rights, and would not have invaded Iraq. Gerald Ford always seemed to exude compassion, humility, and strength. A couple of quotes from our current vice president in today's paper say a lot about Ford (and about Cheney): “Few have ever risen so high with so little guile or calculation.” and “always a striver — never working an angle, just working.”
