Susan decided that it wouldn't be good to blow out the candles in a normal fashion. After all, she was feeling a little sick. So if she blew them out sideways, she wouldn't be blowing directly on the cake and everybody would stay healthy.

Well, so far, she was right. Nobody got sick from eating the cake. Seems like it was a good plan.
