Jay (or "Mr. P") is Scott's band leader and Matt's private trumpet lesson teacher. He also happens to be a superb trumpet player. We went to a church in Rancho Bernardo this afternoon to see him play in a concert of the Westwind Brass Quintet. The band consisted of two trumpets, a french horn, trombone, and tuba. Mr. P had some wonderful flugelhorn solos.

They played mostly Christmas songs, plus a few others. We enjoyed Copland's "Simple Things" because that's what Matt's marching band played in their field show. The concert ended with a terrific dixieland piece.
