Bandos19 October 2003

We see all kinds of band uniforms at the tournaments. The drum major and band leaders' uniforms are always the fanciest. Our band leaders are the ones in the back with the red capes. At the end of the tournament, this is how they pass out the awards. The host band's leaders face the leaders of all the competing bands. When they come up to meet each other, they do a unique salute or dance, then the hosts give the competitors their trophy. Our team won first place last night, but not the sweepstakes. Out of 30 or so bands, we were the second best. Not bad at all. Even though 28 other bands were wishing they were us, our kids were a bit disappointed. The band directors blamed it on the "drill" and not the kids. The drill is the pattern they march around the field. The kids marched very well and sounded terrific. In fact, they won the music award for the tournament. Just didn't quite get that general sweepstakes trophy... maybe next time...
