Mount Carmel Tournament

25 October 2003

Most of our band members and parents spent all day hosting a band tournament today. After teaching two labs at Mesa College, I went over to take photographs. This is a shot from behind the end zone of the band from Poway getting ready for their field show. After each band performs, they put their instruments and uniforms away and go sit in the visitors grandstand on the opposite side of the field. The last few bands sit in the end zone chairs you see set up in the foreground. After all the competing bands have performed, our band, the host band at this tournament, performs a final field show, then the trophies are given out. More than 30 bands competed today from all over Southern California. Our immediate northern neighbors from Rancho Bernardo filled up an entire section of the grandstands just beyond the band in this photo. They came to watch their band win the sweepstakes award and were not disappointed (rollover) as the Royal Regiment took all six of the top prizes in the tourament. We'll be competing against them in the next couple of tournaments, to be held in Chino on the 1st and Arcadia on the 15th. Wish us luck!
